The Setting

We provide the setting and the action for memorable and instructive Off-Road driving at our exclusive 4x4 Supertrack in the grounds of Baskerville Hall.

The Action

Baskerville Challenge is a unique driving experience aimed to increase driver confidence and response capacity. Whatever your standard of driving, we aim to teach, test and thrill, giving a great sense of achievement. The whole experience is one of fun and excitement.

The Course

The course covers a total of 7 miles set in 150 acres of woodland. It has natural steep ascents and descents - all terrain, through mud and water. It is acclaimed throughout the UK as one of the most stimulating and original courses currently open to the public.

For Amateurs & Professionals

Since 1987 Baskerville Challenge has become the venue for training Mountain Rescue and the Fire Service, as well as hosting numerous Off-Road competitions such as Driving Force, Wye and Welsh, Baskerville Challenge and the Hill Rally.

Motor Industry

Motor companies such as Vauxhall with the Brava and Ford with the Maverick, use the course as a test ground and it is also a registered A.T.B. Training Ground.

Vehicles

Land Rover based 4-wheel drive vehicles are used throughout and are tried and tested to the N'th degree.

Safety

Converted for National Competition use, the vehicles are designed to manoeuvre and conquer the most demanding situations and are subjected to regular and stringent scrutineering inspections. Full safety harness and roll bars provide the confidence to quickly and safely master the vehicles, giving unequalled satisfaction in combating slopes and undulations hitherto considered impossible.

Training

Our instructors and supervisors are all highly experienced and dedicated to their sport, and have a sense of humour to ensure that everyone gets the most from the Baskerville Challenge. As well as ensuring your familiarity with the course prior to your taking the wheel, they will instruct and guide you on procedures and techniques for all situations.

Accommodation

Baskerville Hall is an historic country mansion with a colourful past! From the magnificent central hall and sweeping staircase, to the grandeur of the Music Room, it is the perfect setting for off-road parties. It also has dormitory accommodation, a games room, indoor pool and a big screen video. Or if you prefer, one of the top private hotels in Wales, offering haute cuisine and palatial suites, is situated just fifteen minutes drive away from the 4x4 Centre.

Hound Of The Baskervilles

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a frequent house visitor at Baskerville Hall, as house guest of Sir Thomas Baskerville and his second wife Elizabeth. He was so inspired by the Hall, the family and their famous pack of hounds that he asked permission to use them as a basis for a novel. Sir Thomas gave his permission on the condition that the location of the Hall was never disclosed, therefore the famous novel "The Hounds of the Baskervilles" was based around Grimpen Mire.

No visit to the Hall is complete without seeing the graveyard where most of the hounds are buried. As Sir Arthur was impressed, we feel you too will be pleased with all that you find at the Baskerville Challenge 4x4 Centre.
